On Character Assassination Tactics
THE political domain or discourse became unenviable if not downright notorious because of character assassination. In the Free software world there's plenty of politics. Consider the attacks on Richard Stallman and Eben Moglen (while trying to delete their legacy or take over it) or misuse of dirty politics to portray these law-abiding people as objectionable people, potential 'thought criminals'.
The people who leverage these dirty politics typically champion projection tactics, trying to paint oneself as the victim of what they themselves are doing.
A few hours ago Daniel Pocock shared an old reference letter from work. He's now attempting enter EU politics as an Irishman. Pocock helped people blow the whistle, revealing abuses in the Free software world, or rather, abuses by the likes of Google perpetrated within the Free software world. Astoundingly, even though it's not unprecedented a tactic, there was a campaign to portray he who spoke about the abuses as the real source of abuse. He nowadays needs to work extra hard to set the record straight, having faced a persistent campaign of online defamation. Reproduced below is his latest. █
I've worked on a number of foreign exchange trading and treasury projects for different banks.
At the time of the credit crisis from 2007-2008, financial regulators were keen for banks to increase scrutiny of the trades executed by their traders.
Prior to this, traders could make several trades throughout the course of the day and the bank would only become aware of the trades some hours later or in the evening. New regulations required banks to signal the trades to their counterparties within minutes rather than hours.
UBS contracted me to implement these messaging systems for a range of FX and FX derivative trades. The letter below explains more about how I assisted them to improve their systems at this important time.
