Our Most Relaxing Christmas Ever?
NEXT year this site officially turns 19 and my marriage turns 13. For some unexplainable reason - perhaps the "news industry" being a zombie - this Christmas was our most calm ever (in recent memory at least). 3 years ago I responded to an idiot on Christmas Day, 2 years ago I exposed abuses at my former employer (yes, also on Christmas Day), and almost every year I belatedly do "big tasks" on Christmas when there are fewer interruptions and ample time.
This Christmas was different. We barely wrote articles (this was totally intentional; I tried to use editorial comments to respond to things instead of writing articles or detailed rebuttals). Since Christmas Day I've slept a lot (sometimes as much as 9 hours a day) and just sustained Daily Links to keep abreast of what goes on. That means spending lots of quality time with family, not chasing news. Today or tonight that finally cames to an end; we said we'd abruptly resume some time around Monday, having paused last Tuesday. That was probably my first "real break" since years ago. Because even while I was on holiday I'd typically wake up early and use a laptop to write articles.
Almost every "Linux site" (except Phoronix of course!) took a break this year, which made it easier to disengage somewhat. It was a form of collective solidarity - keeping things calm and quiet for a while.
Anyway, we're back. Get ready for a year of awesome, original articles. █
