Microsoft's Windows Falls Below 20% in the UK

After a lot of years of advocacy and hard work it looks like Microsoft's grip is breaking apart [1, 2] in spite of attacks on GNU/Linux including 'secure' boot, SLAPPs, and even bribes.

So far in 2026:

Operating System Market Share United Kingdom

Desktops/laptops alone:

Desktop Operating System Market Share United Kingdom

That might usher in more education and more software freedom across Britain. In a world with rising authoritarianism we truly need this. No more 'Conservatives' in Microsoft's pocket?

The Plan: More of the same

For the record, in case it wasn't obvious until the BBC got sued, free speech in the UK is under attack by Americans (do not fall for the completely opposite and totally phony narrative - the US is an attacker of free speech everywhere [1, 2, 3]), owing to aggressive hypocrites who treat women like trash, openly wanting to punch people (for saying stuff they don't agree on) and allegedly (according to the spouse) breaking a dog's leg.

People I know who live here appreciate some software freedom and privacy, as opposed to NSA back doors and glorification of violence. Here in Manchester there is or was a Free software group, not just a LUG. The first GNU/Linux distro was made here.
