Almost Half the Web Users Connecting to Your Site Are Using Linux
As noted yesterday, GNU/Linux had reached another new record this month. When measured in the context of all form factors (sans servers or supercomputers), almost 1 in 2 Web-connected devices runs Android and about 2% run "proper" GNU/Linux (all-time high of 1.7%). Add in servers and throw in various other form factors... then GNU/Linux or Linux is somewhere around 50%.
Looking for geographical trends, there's nothing particularly exceptional when it comes to GNU/Linux adoption. South America is a bit behind the north, Oceania and its large islands [1, 2] are behind both Americas, and Africa is fleeing Windows, more so than Europe and Asia.
The overall picture is very grim for Microsoft. What it has left is about a quarter of the operating systems market. Instead of growing, Microsoft is now rebranding [1, 2] and its managers are escaping to other GAFAMs (perhaps greener pastures).
Already very deep in debt, Microsoft is not acquiring companies but rebranding instead because that doesn't cost anything. █
