Well, if I (and many others, and i think the majority) switched to Linux was to get away from the atrocious win32/64 api... Now, some folks are trying to inject those api's into Linux... What makes me feel relieved are the community oriented distributions (note Debian and Fedora, mainly). These distros will not succumb to "inventions" and experimentation on Linux.

It's more complicated than that inside Debian, but that's a story I would rather not touch as it upsets many people (who comment here).

This post makes no sense. The story contradicts the headline without any further explanation or context.
Is the point of the story that Shittleworth has contradicted himself?

Not quite.
On several occasions he spoke about how Ubuntu/GNU/Linux should be unique and not rely on Wine, for example. But he is allowing Mono to become part of Ubuntu.
IBM has fast-growing debt and liabilities, it does not intend to invest this kind of money, it's a smokescreen and false promises timed to alleviate the sagging share price (52-week low)
The "Mathematics Pope" (sometimes known as "Pope Pi") brought together science and religion, united against technofascists who are mostly college drop-outs who abhor women
"The present mentality around "AI" is like driving to the gym to use a treadmill - it's walking for people who hate fresh air and beautiful changing scenery."
Nowadays, in academia almost anywhere in the world, there's growing expectation that lecturers will spend not much of the time doing research or even teaching
