Misinformation is Not Intelligence

2 days ago: Google "AI Overview" is Not AI and Not Overview

Yesterday: Google AI Overviews are killing the web: Pew study ("Google includes links to source material summarized via AI Overviews, but searchers are even less likely to click on those links – just one percent did so.")

Today: Okay Google, Stop Spreading Buick Grand National Comeback Rumors: AI Slop Report

One such AI-generated example recently surfaced on Google’s AI summaries, claiming the Grand National is set for a 2026 return with a GNX variant packing a twin-turbo V6 good for 525 horsepower and a 0-to-60 mph time of 3.4 seconds. According to the AI summary, it will blend “retro-inspired elements with modern performance and technology.”

April: Google Spreading Misinformation and Lies

"AI Overview" is one reason I don't use Google, Ryan argues. "It doesn't just give false info," he said. Referring to the awful language used by Matthew Garrett in his public accounts (later he wonders why people cannot take him seriously and he gets sued several times [1, 2]), "It's fucking garbage and they don't give you any way to turn it off other than some hack like put "fuck" in the search like you're some guy from Ireland in cum and cheetos dust pants." (Yes, he wrote something to that effect and also disclosed taking sex toys in his luggage... because that's just the person he is... welcome to FOSSY 2025... the safest event out there... sponsored by the top sponsor Google, former home of the defamation machine, Garrett).

It's not "AI". It's low-grade plagiarism and it fails to show any signs of intelligence. The media is busy relaying a bunch of lies and misdirections for Scam Altman this week. We see lots of "Altman sez" pieces as debt runs high and there's no way to keep things growing/going other than to fake one's potential and get foolish "investors" to pay for it. For Google, slop is an excuse to relay garbage and not send traffic to actual sites.

"The AI overviews are just useless and they take up the entire page," Ryan says. I'd rather see results, not a chatbot summarizing what it anticipates I want to click on. It's all about keeping people on the Google pages longer."

MinceR says, "at least it lets you get some answers without having to load another superheavy page that's a pain to use (and takes forever to load)".

What's better? Quick falsehood or accurate information that takes a few seconds longer?
