Apple Shuts Down Factory Production of Linux Phones
Summary: Apple’s Godly hand strikes another manufacturer where phones of the ‘wrong’ brand were manufactured
Apple has already resorted to lawsuits against Android (with Linux) and now we discover that a design issue — not an alleged patent violation — is being used by Apple to remove a Linux-based phone from the market. “In case you have no idea what we’re talking about,” says Engadget, “earlier this month said Chinese company’s been in heated talks with Apple due to the M8 smartphone bearing an “appearance roughly similar” to the iPhone.” Apple appears to have gotten its way:
So, it looks like the M8′s all set for an early retirement, either way — it doesn’t look like Apple’s going to let this one go easily, and Jack’s also expressed concern over the fact that the IPO has the power to shut his factory down without going to court. That said, things are still looking positive for the elusive M9 — from the sounds of it, Meizu’s upcoming Android phone isn’t affected by this takedown (yet); but the question is whether Jack and co. can keep the shops running until a December launch for their next flagship device. Oh well, hang in there, Meizu!
Meizu M8 was going to have Android too.
Why does Apple fear commoditisation? If it can make phones that can justify their price, let competition do its thing. █

Isn’t this the phone that was outright ripping off iOS (like Pystar was trying to do with MacOS X)? If so, then your headline is a bit misleading as they could probably put the Android version through without any issues.
Please correct me if I’m wrong on that one.

Yesterday I did some searching to discover that the company is moving to Android. Apple seems to be trying to drive them out of business (even if they steer off Apple’s territory, which in itself is an issue).

According to Endgadget, the <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/09/06/meizu-ceo-jack-wong-oh-hey-the-new-ipod-touch-looks-a-bit-lik/'M8 and M9 phones have always run Android. Even if you look at the referenced article, you see that it is all about looks and corruption.
Welcome to the English speaking technical backwater. Apple is saying that they own basic ideas and methods. China seems to have agreed as far as the US market is concerned. Shops in China were making knock off iPhones within two weeks of getting their hands on them. People in Japan think hypePhone is lame because they are used to much more. Once again, it’s difficult to tell how much of these accusations are just Microsoft mud slinging and how much of them are real. As someone who used and enjoyed a Sharp Zaurus back in 2002, then Open Zaurus, I can say that the US “smart phone” market has been very slow to catch up with the rest of the world and that hypePhone still does not impress. China is ready, willing and able to cooperate with corrupt companies like Apple and Microsoft to reduce competition and effort for themselves at everyone else’s expense.

I just recalled recently about reading of a Chinese phone that was basically running iOS even though it wasn’t an Apple iPhone. In that case I would have to agree with Apple; but if it’s just running Android or something then I would not.

The part about “appearance roughly similar” seems to suggest that the it’s not a Psystar-like case.
