I t is difficult to find stories where a vote on OOXML is confirmed to have been made calmly and peacefully. There is almost always some form of intervention by Microsoft (and/or its partners), to whom this decision is very crucial.
Memories returned at the sight of this new report from Poland .
Last Thursday PKN (Polish Normalization Committee) had a meeting on which it was supposed …

A quick update was recently added to indicate that not all is well in Poland. We’ve had nothing but suspicions from the start, but the protests which have just begun confirm this. This is terrible. Microsoft’s actions are now turning citizens against their authorities. By spreading their money and influence in attempts to change the outcome of the vote, trust was lost. This will be …

On August 20 th we said that OOXML had apparently been defeated in Poland , but unsurprisingly there was a flip-flop . An anonymous reader of this site reported possible irregularities in the process . When Poland says “Yes” to OOXML, bear in mind that it does not tell the full story.
Microsoft has apparently been rallying its troops around the world and there is strong evidence that …

We haven’t a full translation yet, but early evidence seems to suggest that a panel’s decision in Poland is being overriden because it is not favourable to OOXML. Watch this space in case there are more updates to come.
There was no practical reason to do that and as you remember first [Polish] comitee rejected MSOOXML with 82% votes against it, but now second comittee approved …

Borys Musielak was quick to translate and republish some of the Polish news in English. It looks rather encouraging.
Polish Technical Committee no 171 has just voted 80% against the adoption OOXML as an ISO standard [PL]. It’s not the end of the game though, since committee 171 which was first planned to make the decision does not make the final decision anymore. Another committee 182 …

Some people never learn…
Summary : Despite a long history of Microsoft formats being proven guarantee of digital obsolescence, Moodle allows itself to become Microsoft prey and a Trojan horse for OOXML in classrooms (for children)
M ICROSOFT is ever so desperate to paint .NET/Windows “open”, basically characterising its core proprietary lock-in as anything but “closed” …

Summary : Microsoft continues to distort the office suites market and impede interoperability using the OOXML pseudo ‘standard’, essentially by branching out into “Strict” and “Transitional”, making it exceedingly hard for developers to deal with files generated by Microsoft Office and vice versa
T RYING to work with Microsoft is misguided. Just look and see what has …
