SUSE Goodbyes and Bloggers
Here is another story (among many others) about a distro hopper that decides to seek greener pastures.
On Wednesday of this week I wiped openSUSE off my machine and decided to try Mandriva 2008 next.
Interestingly enough, some people who leave SUSE cite our Web site as the reason for doing so. In this case, no real reason is given for the change, but one must remember that SUSE as a free platform is no more.
“And you’ll see, as well, an economic commitment from Novell to Microsoft that involves a running royalty, a percentage of revenue on open source software shipped under the agreement”
If you are after a decent distribution of Linux, then Mandriva 2008 is worth a look. It has received many positive reviews and it comes with KDE and GNOME, just like OpenSUSE.

You really need to start reading the articles you post about. The blogger is trying out different distros. He uses ubuntu and wanted to see if he could get things done in other distros. He started with ubuntu, went to opensuse, tried mandriva, and is now on PCLinuxOS. Now he’s moving on to Debian Etch.
This site is now officially a joke.

Or maybe you did know that the blogger was just trying out different distros and decided not to include that part. I think this is more likely. Are you having a hard time trying to find legitimate stories that help your cause (whatever your cause may be)?

lalala: I would have to say yes. Roy gets carried away with his summaries a lot.

Hi, i’m from Argentina, and recently I knew Mandriva, and y move from Ubuntu to Mandriva Spring.
Mandriva is nice, but when a knew OpenSUSE, it was a good distro (10.2), but with some problems to make it worth fine.
both distros are goods O.S., but i like more Mandriva.

lalala,
No, I did read the article and I did know that it was a case of distro hopping. I even said so in the post. The other previous stories that I talk about are real and they are a case of leaving SUSE because it’s associated with Novell.

“Here is another story (among many others) about a distro hopper that decides to seek greener pastures.”
That’s misleading – you’re saying that the guy is “leaving SUSE” when in reality he is trying an entire list of distros. He’s not making a political statement, he’s trying out various distributions of Linux.
An analogy is a test driving cars – just because at first you test drove a Ford, then next you test drove a Volkswagen doesn’t mean you hated the Ford… it just means you’re trying all the options on a level playing field.

There’s a more compelling example among today’s posts.
