Utah Has Novell, SCO, and… Conficker in the Hospitals
Summary: University of Utah stormed by the Conficker worm, which affects Microsoft Windows
Conficker, which came about after Microsoft's negligence, has already infected several hospitals in the UK, so it’s more than just a pain in the neck; it’s killing people. Now it tampers with people’s medical records and causes great chaos in Utah, according to these two reports which cite another (but AP is a foe of the Internet).
More than 700 computers at the University of Utah have been infected with the Conficker worm.
The hit includes computers at the university’s three hospitals, the Associated Press reported early Sunday.
University health sciences spokesman Chris Nelson said the outbreak of the Conficker worm, which can slow computers and steal personal information, was first detected Thursday. By Friday, the virus had infiltrated computers at the hospitals, medical school, and colleges of nursing, pharmacy and health.
This problem, in general, is so widespread that now there are mock stickers about it. █
