Quick Mention: “KOffice Standardises on OpenDocument”
KDE ♥ ODF
It was predictable, expected, and a natural choice. However, some folks left room for doubt and hesitation. GNOME was not helping either, but it’s official now.
KOffice standardises on OpenDocument. Free Software and open standards are a perfect match and the way to move forward for a society to ensure vendor-independent access to its data. We’re actively participating in the OASIS since it matches our value, and we believe that one strong standard is in the best interest of our users.
The project won’t be in need of a translator either. The ‘translator’ was more of a scam funded by those who benefit the most from its existence (it was an obligatory par of the Linux deals).

I don’t know how there could be any doubt on this issue.
There had been a brief discussion on Microsoft’s “OpenXML” earlier this year (around July) in the koffice-devel mailing list where the main KOffice developpers made clear that they are strictly against support of OOXML.
Further, a short look at the OpenDocument TC mailing list shows that the main opponents of the guys of the “OpenDocument Foundation, Inc.” were the KOffice developers although Gary Edwards and Mardux like to put the blame on SUN because it is mor effective to blame one mean big company than a couple of free software developers.

Yes, Gary and Marbux used KDE as a bit of an example when we spoke and I could also recall some KDE blogs talking about OOXML. That’s why I was slightly confused.
