Gartner Group Wants to Get Rid of Open Government
Summary: “Why We Must Get Rid of Open Government” is the headline chosen by Gartner’s vice president
THE Gartner Group‘s Andrea Di Maio (mentioned before in [1, 2, 3]) for suggesting that “Cloud Computing [is] Killing Open Source in Government” and saying along with Michael Silver that governments in Europe are not moving to Free/open source software, which would of course be a lie) is still serving their main clients, which are of course proprietary software vendors.
The latest FUD from Gartner was spotted by the FFII and it can be found here, under the headline “Why We Must Get Rid of Open Government”:
I have been an early skeptic on the Open Government Directive, not because it is not a good idea, but because one must appreciate the implementation challenges and how high (or low) a priority it can be in the context of the strategic objectives that each agency has to meet.
Gartner has given up even trying to pretend that it’s tolerant towards Free software, transparency, and all those reasonable practices (especially where the operations are funded by taxpayers). █
