Attempts to ‘Infect’ Google’s Android with Microsoft IP Tax?

Once the source code for Android is released, it would be interesting to look into integrating Mono wiht it. It should already run on it, as its just Linux. What would be interesting is continuing to use C# to write code for it.

If you still don’t understand why Mono is dangerous to GNU/Linux, then do some reading [1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14, 15, 16, 17, 18, 19, 20, 21, 22, 23, 24, 25, 26, 27, 28]. Also recall Samsung's patent deal with Microsoft. They do phones with Mono.

    It is highly unlikely that Google will take the bait give the effort it has gone to to avoid similar issues with Sun’s Java ME

    Thanks, David. You’re right…

    ‘Sun released their “free java” source code under the GPLv2 to both win the free software crowd and capture peripheral innovation and bug fixing from the community.’

    Then again, have a look at what I found just hours I had posted this quick one. The last thing one needs on these phones is a .NET-like framework that Microsoft deliberately excludes from its patent deals.

    I believe Microsoft has a plan and I wonder how it’s coordinated with Mono developers (if at all). Mind you, some of them still support OOXML and even help Microsoft address comments (on behalf on Microsoft). They are on the team that attacks ODF using a proprietary format, essentially.

    Miguel has a serious case of “ooh, lets add that to Mono to make people use it!”,
    Whether it’s Andriod or Silverlight.

    I don’t think he understands. They already have a quick small VM (dalvik) for their phone. We already have a quick small VM (java) for our desktops. Lets not EEE and consume them all with Mono.

    TBH, I’m not happy with Google writing yet another VM, but if that’s what they need to avoid Sun royalties/quirks (to make phone companies less dependent on Sun control), then so be it.

    Please stop bringing nationalist connotation to this. The words ‘infect’ (or ‘contaminate’) needn’t invoke Godwin’s Law. They are used elsewhere in the same context, so I merely borrow them.

    No, that is quite typical. Nazis (and racists in general) mis-use biological terms for social phenomena. They portrayed Jews as an ‘infection’ for the body of the German people and claimed to have traced their ‘tainting’ influence on the German race and culture everywhere. This whole ‘infection’/’tainting’-hysteria about Novell very, very strongly reflects a dangerous mindset.

    eet, that’s not the context it was used in, and you know it. It was used in a classic sense of biological infection. You’re sort of a bizzare reverse-Godwin’s Law. You make comments about “Conspiracy Theorists”, yet you voraciously attempt to find and insert vulgarity, hatred, and ulterior motives in Roy (and Shane’s?) posts that aren’t there, ala repeated attempts to link their commentaries with Nazism. This is classic CT behavior ;)

    The use of biological terms that compare people or ideas with illnesses is classic racist behavior; whether you like it or not. People without good arguments to make but with a lot of hatred tend to use harsh clinical terms. Be a man and get your mind (and language) out of the gutter.
